2014:This project took place In El Nido, Palawan, The Philippines, on Feb 6, 2014, in Bacuit National Marine Reserve.
This work is the culmination of a lot of ANDA experiences and ideas, and was generously made possible by a grant from Zayed University. The goal was to inspire all involved to further appreciate the pristine coastal environment that is being protected by the reserve, as well as to instill an interest in the arts in an area with little public arts education. This workshop utilized waterproof cameras, and the workshop participants were children from two families who, for whatever reason, were not in school that day. A good time was had by all, and by the end of the workshop, we had drawn a crowd of approximately 15-20 onlookers (both foreign and local) cheering us on, and taking pictures of us, as we took pictures. Some of the onlookers even followed us into the water and took pictures of us. This curious interest was really nice to see. A digital copy of these photos was sent back to the workshop participants. Thank you to Cyrus Fernandez for helping make this happen. 2013:Somaliland trip was very successful. An animation inspired by Unesco World Heritage Site "Las Geel" and an annotated documentary travelogue, highlighting Hargeisa, Berbera, and Sheekh, can be found here.
2012:Surveyed the arts and gallery scene in Addis Ababa, including the fine arts department at Addis Ababa University. ANDA recently sponsored two schoolchildren from the Lalibela area to finish their education through high school.
2012:Believe it or not, there are a few places left on Earth where elephants still roam freely. Northern Mozambique is one of those places. We are very moved by the appeal made by Project Mareja, and their recent devastating news of poachers killing free-roaming elephants on their land. ANDA made a donation to their Save the Elephants campaign. While the development of elephant forest habitat to agricultural farmland is probably inevitable, managing this transition in a way that protects other species is possible.
2011:The exhibition in South Africa was a big success, thank you to all the artists, and everyone that came out to see the show. Footage of the event has been uploaded. The catalogues are available now, as well, and have been distributed to all participating artists and the public.
