Our current exhibition features the work of Emirati artist Hend AlMuhairi. The exhibition is titled "Knit Wit", and runs from September 21 - October 25, 2014.
"This set of crocheted items reflects the curiosity of an artist about weaving and how it works. Although it started as any person who would have a hobby to do in their leisure time, this world of yarn began to take me in slowly until it became an addiction…a good addiction; it trains your brain to focus, and fights against depression. Crocheting provides an amazing skill, which is to predict or visualize how a project would look like at the end without even making it. You may be one of those who connect the word 'crochet' or any kind of knitting method with an old person…well, even young people can knit! It is not an activity that only old people can do. The reason behind why knitting is more done by elders because of its benefits to decrease memory loss, and relieve stress out of their system. The most critical trait you should have through this activity is patience, and without it…. You would not get to feel the excitement after finishing one piece. So through this show, I want to reach this specific group of people who thinks knitting is restricted for old people only; to show them how crocheting could be helpful for your health and mentality. It broadens your creativity and raises it to another level, where weird and impossible ideas become alive and possible to achieve."--Hend AlMuhairi |
